about

"Vengeance, Vengeance, Vengeance..."

The word kept popping up in my head. It would float around like a molotov cocktail setting a team of police officers aflame. It would distract me while I drove the empty streets around my town, searching for any kind of meaning in the work I put into anything. My love was pouring out of my heart without anyone or anything to push it back in.

Inside, the city was churning perfect little replicas of me. I could see their smiling faces working their jobs or pleasing their spouses, perfect ignorance draping their face like a mask. But the mask was starting to melt. The summer heat was inflicting pain upon the weak, the poor, the tired.

We searched for paradise and found nothing but minimum wage jobs and events to keep us busy for the night. We had all been left alone, but in that isolation, we found freedom. An empty space to strike out on the hurtful world around us. We found out who we actually were.

Sometimes we'd rope someone in just to feel used again. A little peace turned war in the microcosm of the "dog eat dog" lifestyle. But the turmoil could only make us stronger, no matter how much we thought about suicide.

lyrics

There's a vengeance in my heart
And it bleeds to bring you down
We've been driving through the dark
Heavy hearts don't make a sound
I can't care for much at all
There ain't no love around here

Well this whole damn town's ablaze
And their money is the fuel
When the body starts to ache
A soul can get so cruel
If you've been left alone
It's always right to act a fool

Lay your head down on the ground
Find some peace of mind before we all wind up in hell
