There was a woman I knew before I left to Indiana. Her name was Annie.

Annie was experiencing the same type of pain that I was going through. She was being used by a system dangling green wads of magic in front of her face and that's all she could think about.

Rent, bills and success clouded her foggy mind like the morning hours of a coastal town.

And still, as I thought about it more and more, wasn't a boss, a cog in the system, just the same as an abusive lover, whether they meant well or not? They were dragging us through the mud with no mind for what we experienced, whether we had two or three other jobs, a disability or a disease. We were treated like shit no matter how much we pulled on our loads, aching our backs and tormenting us in our sleep.

"Just keep going with the motions. Hard work will pay off in the end. There's a place waiting for all you hard workers once you grind your bones into the ground."

Well, I called, "bullshit."
