There are just some events you can't escape from without leaving your goddamn city behind.
There's something magical about leaving town and becoming something else, especially when you're lead right back into exactly who you are. The people, the places, the things you know all turn into flagships of doom and the depression sets in until you find another escape, "one more bottle, one more night out."
I left town with nothing but $400, a couple of friends and beat up Honda Civic. We came back into town as kings of the elements, squanderers of the capitalist system, beautiful rejects that somehow survived a three day festival based on mutual aid, music and love, but I still couldn't shake myself from the memories. They haunted me in my nightmares and day dreams. They threw me aside when people came to me, asking for advice.
I'll never understand this game: love. I can only play by the rules and call foul when something seems wrong. Well, something felt wrong in me and I knew it wasn't her fault. There was something deeper, buried beneath years of isolation.
lyrics
Well I'm a long way from home and I buried my heart in Indiana
I spend all my time getting you off my mind in California
And these open roads will free me from my cage
You always look so beautiful when you are sitting there alone
Encased inside of my love along with everything that I own
And the moonlight shines the pain upon my face
Like a little baby born beside a grave
I've been wandering for just a few hours now
I've been wondering if it was all for not
I'm terrified the love we had will wash into the street
I'm so damn scared you'll find someone new to listen while you sleep
But it's ok
Because I will do the same
